Keeping Your Cat Happy

September is Happy Cat Month! Our feline pals definitely deserve to be happy. They’re cute, cuddly, lovable, and fun, not to mention highly entertaining. We all know how to fulfill kitties’ basic needs. Good food, a clean litterbox, and proper veterinary care will cover your pet’s most essential needs. But what does it take to really keep your pet’s motor going? Here, an Anderson, IN vet lists some great ways to please your furry overlord.

Kitty Fountain

Did you know that many kitties prefer to drink running water? Get Fluffy a pet fountain, and see if she likes it!

Beds

Cats are collectively exhausted, and will spend up to 20 hours a day snoozing. (We’re not entirely convinced that Fluffy needs that much rest, but that’s beside the point.) Offer your drowsy pet a new bed to doze off in. It doesn’t matter if she already has one. It’s nice to have options.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are quite beneficial for Fluffy. They provide her with a manicure station, a jungle gym, a vantage point of her kingdom, and, of course, another napping spot. If your budget is tight this year, go the DIY route and make one.

Cat Garden

Kitties are safer indoors, but they do enjoy sniffing at and nibbling on plants. Set out some pet-safe plants for your feline pal. You’ll find a list of great options online at the ASPCA site here.

Playtime

Cats are always cute, but they are never more adorable than when they are pouncing or jumping. Take a few minutes a day to play with Fluffy. This is not only great for her, both physically and mentally, it’s also super cute.

Window Seat

Fluffy absolutely loves watching birds and squirrels. Make sure your pet has at least one good window seat with a comfy view, where she can rest, spy on local wildlife, and day dream about hunting.

Attention

Last but certainly not least, cats are always happiest when they feel loved, safe, and a bit spoiled. Pay attention to your pet! Talk to her as you pass by her, and offer her lots of ear scritches and cuddles. The more affectionate and interactive you are with your furball, the more affectionate and interactive she’ll be with you!
