5 Things Your Dog Would Do If He Grew Thumbs

There’s a pretty cute pet holiday coming up. March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day. As you may know, the fact that we have opposable thumbs has played a huge role in our evolution. What do you think would happen if your canine companion suddenly grew them? An Anderson, IN vet offers a few possibilities in this article.

Fridge Raid

If there’s one thing that all dogs have in common, it’s a love of food. Fido certainly wouldn’t have any qualms about raiding your fridge and cupboards. You’d likely come home to find lots of empty cans and containers … and your pup sleeping off a food coma. He may also order himself lots of food deliveries.

Online Shopping

It doesn’t take very much to please Fido. However, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t enjoy ordering himself some goodies online. What do you think your furry pal would put in his shopping cart? We suspect lots of toys would be added first, followed by beds, chew sticks, and treats. From there, your pup would likely move on to ordering food, and would sign up for things like steak clubs, canned goods, and, of course, even more treats.

Adventures

It probably wouldn’t take Fido long to realize that opposable thumbs would also open up the possibility of his being able to drive. Your pooch may very well grab your keys and ‘borrow’ your car. Next on his agenda? He’d probably pick up some of his buddies, and head off for a day of doggy adventures … which would likely include a few stops at drive-throughs.

Scratches

It’s always cute seeing our canine buddies close their eyes with bliss when we help them scratch those itchy spots. Fido would likely go for a fork, ruler, scratcher, or anything else you have on hand, and get all of those stubborn itches.

Appointments

Your canine pal would probably start making and breaking appointments. What would go into Fido’s planner? A massage, perhaps, and standing appointments with dog walkers. On the other hand, your furry friend may very well decide to cancel his appointments with us. Coming to see us is definitely in your pet’s best interests, but he’d probably rather hit the park.
